Drama Classes
7-9 yrs | 10-12 yrs | 13-15 yrs
Drama at Hive is focused on developing authentic acting skills using the face and body to express a range of emotions through expression and movement. In class, students are guided by our experienced actors and drama tutors, to work together with other students, create scripts and scenes and build confidence.

Class Uniform:
Student are required to purchase a Hive performing arts t-shirt to wear to class weekly. Purchase from the Hive SHOP.
Makeups:
Up to 2 makeups classes per term are available for Performing Arts students per term. Notify your absence no less than 2 hrs before your class (via the Client Portal) to receive a makeup token. Makeups have a 2 month expiry, and may only be accessed while you are enrolled.
2025 LEARNING FOCUSES
Term 1 – Fantasy and Legend. Students will look at different plays in this genre and style and devise their own short scene to be performed at the end of the term, developing their skills in improvisation and teamwork!
Term 2 – The World of Physical Theatre. Students will focus on puppetry, masks and movement! They will discover using big gestures to devise a scene to be performed at the end of term.
Term 3 – On Broadway. Students will have the opportunity to explore current plays on Westend and on Broadway they will understand stagecraft and use script work based on a current broadway play in preparation for a showcase in week 10.
Term 4 – Pantomime. Students will learn and develop their skills in this fun and quirky theatre style! We will learn each week all the exciting elements of pantomime, and perform our own mini pantomime to end the year!

Drama Academy

Join our Drama Academy class if you want to take your skills to the next level in a more focused class environment. These classes spend more time on learning and performing from scripts and step up your skills in improvisation and stagecraft, getting you ready for full productions.

2025 LEARNING FOCUSES
Term 1 – Monologue/ duologues and audition techniques: Students will learn to analyse, explore and bring text to life while performing alone on stage and in scene work. These are
essential skills for any upcoming audition. In class performance of monologues and duologues.
Term 2 – Improvisation. Students will take an in depth look at why improvisation is such an important part of performance and discover how it is the foundation stone of team work, listening and creating scenes in the Moment boosting courage and imagination. End of term art inspired immersive performance at The Owens Collective.
Term 3 – On Broadway. Students will explore current plays on Westend and on Broadway. They will understand stagecraft and use script work based on a current broadway play in preparation for a showcase in week 10.
Term 4 – Physical Theatre. Students will have fun delving into the world of Physical theatre by focusing on puppetry, movement and masks. Performance opportunity to showcase their devised pieces to a school audience.

THEATRE MINIS
3.5 – 5 yrs | 5-7 yrs | Mini Theatre Academy
In Musical Theatre, the three great performing arts of singing, dancing and acting combine to create one vibrant performance experience. In each class, students learn to sing and refine their singing technique; learn dance movements and choreographed sequence for each song; act out scenes, try out characters and learn their part in the class performance.

Term 1 – Fantasy and Legend. Focusing on Musicals such as Wicked, Into the woods and Shrek, with a strong focus on characterisation and ensemble singing.
Term 2 – On Broadway. This term we will be looking at “what’s hot” on Broadway and focusing on some the shows currently featured across the 41 Broadway Theatres.
Term 3 – The World of Physical Theatre. With a focus on acting through movement and dance, this term has the aim of supporting our students to develop their ability to express themselves through the form of Musical Theatre.
Term 4 – Pantomime. Returning to fun filled British tradition in term 4 we will be focusing on audience participation and slapstick comedy whilst putting together a mini in class pantomime.

Musical Theatre Academy
9-14 yrs | 15 -18 yrs
Join Musical theatre Academy if you have already attended 1 hour classes before or been in a Hive production and are interested in growing your skills in a more focused way.
Academy classes have a balance of group dance and song plus individual acting and singing in a workshop style to help you develop the skills and confidence you need for gaining character roles and performing at your best in Hive productions.

2025 LEARNING FOCUSES
Term 1 – Casting and Repertoire. Focusing on each student understanding their casting and building up a repertoire of songs and scenes/monologues that they can use in any audition environment
Term 2 – Standing Out in the Crowd. Looking at several famous Musical theatre
performers and what makes their performances unforgettable. How can we recreate that? Performance opportunity at Owens Collective in week 5.
Term 3 – On Broadway. Over this 10 weeks students will be looking at “What’s Hot” on Broadway and the West End and preparing for a showcase in week 10.
Term 4 – Audition, Audition, Audition. Focusing on supporting students to feel confident and prepared for any audition environment including self tapes and dance auditions to really refine their toolkit for the auditions the final term brings.

Voice Lessons
5-18 yrs
Voice lessons are beneficial not only for students who are serious about singing and developing technique, but also for developing confidence in singing and performance, particularly for our Musical Theatre Students. Students are guided through voice warm ups which are a great opportunity for teaching breathing, accurate pitch and tone. Students also learn vocal technique and vocal health, learning songs of their choice and those suggested by their tutor to improve new skills.
We provide private lessons only, which ensures a targeted approach to learning.

Performance Opportunities:
Students have the opportunity to performing in our bi-annual concerts.
Missed lessons: You are paying for a weekly timeslot with a teacher. We can sometimes accommodate makeup lessons where other students have notified an absence in advance, and these can only be booked via the client portal.
