In Musical Theatre, the three great performing arts of singing, dancing and acting combine to create one vibrant performance experience. In each class, students learn to sing and refine their singing technique; learn dance movements and choreographed sequence for each song; act out scenes, try out characters and learn their part in the class performance.

All Musical Theatre classes are held at our studio: 8 Frederick St, Charlestown

1 class / week: $250/10 week term
Multi class discounts (per student):
2nd class $220 / 10 week term
3rd class $180 / 10 week term

Class Uniform:
Student are required to purchase a Hive performing arts t-shirt to wear to class weekly. Purchase from the Hive SHOP.
Makeups:
2 makups classes are available for Performing Arts students per term. Notify your absence no less than 2 hrs before your class (via the Client Portal) to receive a makeup token. Makeups have a 2 month expiry, and may only be accessed while you are enrolled.
2025 LEARNING FOCUSES
Term 1 – Fantasy and Legend. Focusing on Musicals such as Wicked, Into the woods and Shrek, with a strong focus on characterisation and ensemble singing.
Term 2 – On Broadway. This term we will be looking at “what’s hot” on Broadway and focusing on some the shows currently featured across the 41 Broadway Theatres.
Term 3 – The World of Physical Theatre. With a focus on acting through movement and dance, this term has the aim of supporting our students to develop their ability to express themselves through the form of Musical Theatre.
Term 4 – Pantomime. Returning to fun filled British tradition in term 4 we will be focusing on audience participation and slapstick comedy whilst putting together a mini in class pantomime.

THEATRE MINIS ACADEMY

The Theatre Minis Academy is our latest addition to the Youth Theatre programme for 2025. Designed our young performers who have a passion stage performance, and who love singing dancing and acting. This class offers performance opportunities and prepares children for joining full productions.

2025 LEARNING FOCUSES
Term 1 – Beginners Call. Building skills to adequately prepare them for their mini production:
• Character Development: Experiment with vocal and physical expression to create characters for performance through creative play, improvisation and script work.
• Voice and Song: Introduction to how the voice works, fundamental singing technique with a focus on ensemble singing and acting through song.
• Speed Choreography and Physical Expression: Each week students will learn a new section of choreography, participating in exercises that promote expressive movement and spatial awareness.
Term 2 & 3 – Production term. Learning, rehearsing and mastering the songs, scenes and choreography for our upcoming production in September. More information coming soon!
Term 4 – Taking Centre Stage. Voice and Song: Students will be working on individual solo
performances further developing their acting through song:
• Movement: With a focus on acting through movement to enhance our performance
• Acting: building confidence with script work and scene work into song performance opportunity in week 10.

WARNERS BAY THEATRE
Hive is giving our Mini Musical Academy students the opportunity to take part in a full production of Moana Jr, supported by our senior cast members of Hive Youth Theatre.
With a focus on group performance and designed for young performers to gain experience in performing in a stage production, it’s a format that suits their age and developing ability.
Rehearsals begin term 2, 2025. Students already enrolled in term 1 get first priority for joining this production cast.

Our Theatre for preschoolers is developed in line with research focusing on training early talent formation in singing, physical expression,whilst forming confidence in performance and working together with others.
